This
is the third edition of The Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong’s
Guide to Good Employment Practices. In it we have:
n
taken account of the views and comments of our members
n
included the latest legal requirements and best practice
policies and procedures
n
tried to make the Guide as practical and usable for both
large and small employers.
Clearly we cannot cover every situation or take account of the
individual culture of each employer. There will be gaps, we know,
in our Guide. And, no doubt quite soon, there will be changes to
the law and to best practice that we cannot foresee.
However, one principle, surely, is enduring – that all
organisations, whether in the Public or Private sector, employ human
beings who are entitled to fair treatment, respect and the
opportunity to earn a living safely and be treated humanely at all
times. Legislation may provide the framework but the responsibility
for implementing good employment practices rests squarely with
employers.
Employers who embrace these principles will unquestionably benefit
greatly from the engagement and drive of their workforce.
I am
extremely grateful to all those who have contributed to this Guide
and wish readers every success in its implementation in their
organisations.
